Peter's departure from this world was sudden and, mercifully, peaceful. Right until the end, Peter led a life filled with kindness, courage, adventure, and love.
Please share any memories, anecdotes, comments, pictures or simply condolences below.
Born in Rankweil, Austria
11TH MARCH, 1948
Peter was born in a small Austrian town to Marianna Böhm, a teacher, and Kurt Tömördy, a baker apprentice and later nurse.
Peter was the second of five children. He had one sister, Dorle, and three brothers: Walter, Kurt, and Reinhard.
Perhaps nurtured as a boy scout, Peter's sense of adventure and curiosity took him to all corners of the world throughout his life. He lived in over nine different countries, spoke multiple languages, and felt at home with people from all walks of life.
Married in Frankfurt, Germany
15TH SEPTEMBER, 1982
Peter and Frances fell in love on a beach in Abu Dhabi. Over the course of their almost 40-year happy marriage, they made wonderful and lasting friends wherever they called home.
Peter was always “the quiet one” and so different from Frances, but their union… worked. It worked very well, both in the joyful and difficult times.
Peter's love for his wife and (growing!) family was always unconditional. Peter always showed a strong sense of duty, was incredibly reliable, practical and always up for joining in any fun. He was not fussy and impressively unbothered by material possessions.
Retiring first to Scotland and then Portugal
2011-2024
After living in Germany for many years, Frances and Peter returned to Linlithgow in 2011 to live in Frances' childhood home.
Frances and Peter always kept up their love of travel. Their final decade together saw them visit the Big Apple (twice!), Niagara Falls, London, Elba, Sardinia, the Austrian Alps, the Côte d'Azur, the Algarve, the Orkneys, the Isle of White, among many other places.
The Covid period was especially hard for Peter and Frances, but it was brightened by the arrival of Cockleroy, the cat they came to adore.
Peter and Frances embarked on one final big adventure together: moving to Portugal in November 2021, a country they had loved from many family trips over the years.
Tragically, Frances passed away shortly after arriving.
Peter managed to rebuild a new life surrounded by friends and family. He spent his final years on an idyllic, working (!) farm, raising animals, gardening, playing dominoes & chess, and making industrial quantities of orange juice.
Peter will soon rest next to Frances, overlooking the sea they both loved so much. Fittingly, Peter leaves behind a wonderful family in England, Austria, Germany, Liechtenstein, Portugal, and the United States, as well as friends from there and beyond.
